The storm continues over the footballer Rafa Mir after spending two nights in a cell and giving his statement this Wednesday before the judge accused of sexually assaulting a woman. The attacker of the Valencia CF “flagrantly” denies the charges against him, as his defense stated in a statement.
Jaime Campanerthe lawyer who defends Rafa Mir and is the managing partner of the prestigious law firm Campanist Lawshared a note this Thursday “in the face of the incessant and overwhelming number of publications in the media and social networks”. He also specifies that “the accusation is not retained”.
The lawyer denounces a “self-serving, biased and partial leak of elements supposedly extracted from the summary” and specifies that they will not be part of “a parallel trial” through the media. He also specifies that neither he nor his client will make any other statements.
Statement from Rafa Mir’s defense:
Given the incessant and overwhelming number of publications in the media and on social networks, as well as calls and attempts to contact the media in this country, our professional office is forced to issue this informative note:
1.- Rafa Mir categorically denies the facts with which he is accused and, as announced by the press office of the Superior Court of Justice of the Valencian Community, he was provisionally released yesterday.
2.- The presumption of innocence of Rafa Mir must be respected, as it is imposed both by the Spanish Constitution and by European Directive 2016/343.
3.- The recently inaugurated criminal proceedings will serve to clarify the facts and demonstrate that the accusation is not supported.
4.- The judicial procedure is reserved (article 301 of the Code of Criminal Procedure), therefore, taking into account the apparent interested, biased and partial leak of elements allegedly extracted from the summary, this defense will not participate in any parallel trial.
5.- Neither Mr. Mir nor his lawyer will make any statements to the media, limiting themselves to actively participating in the criminal process which is still in its embryonic phase.

Statement before the judge
The Valencia CF footballer, according to the statement he had access to SPANISHadmitted to the judge the “sexual relations with the complainant and her friend”, but assured at all times that “they were consensual”.
Mir also said that the girls had “a confrontation between them caused by jealousy,” having had relations with both of them that night. According to their version, they were both thrown out of their house by their friend. Paul Cistusalso charged, due to the altercation they had provoked.
The prosecution supported the release of Rafa Mir requested by his lawyer, Jaime Campaner. The lawyer offered to hand over the footballer’s passport to ensure there was no risk of flight.
Campaner has defended prominent figures such as the former first lady of Peru –Nadine Heredia-, Calum Best -son of the footballer george Best-, Mustafa -also Valencia CF player- or Savior Trixet -advisor accused of organizing the company’s structure Inaki Urdangarin and his partner Diego Tours-.
Finally, the judge decided to release Rafa Mir with the following precautionary measures: withdrawal of his passport, ban on leaving Spainweekly court appearances and a 500-metre restraining order against both plaintiffs.
