He receives throughout the day all the regional parliamentary spokespeople, especially to listen to their proposals, but also their criticisms. In his meeting with Vox, the main difference occurred on the subject of irregular immigration. Monasterio accuses Ayuso of having generated a call effect by rehabilitating the La Cantueña center in Fuenlabrada.
Ayuso arrived at the Community headquarters after opening the political course of the Madrid PP in Arganda del Rey. There, the Madrid president asked her party colleagues not to fall into the trap of Sánchez’s strategy, because according to her, he will try to divide them through the economic “corruption” of their respective communities.
At the first meeting in Sol, along with the spokesperson for Vox, the Minister of the Presidency, Miguel Ángel García, and the head of Social Affairs, Ana Dávila, were also present to discuss the issue of menas, which is of particular concern to the Monasterio party. At the meeting table were the spokesperson for Vox, Íñigo Henríquez de Luna and José Antonio Fuster.
Monasterio presented a list of 33 proposals to the Madrid president. As he later explained, there are points of agreement on low taxes, birth rate policies or health spending. The problem, he says, is that the regional government is not implementing it.
The Vox spokesperson confirmed Ayuso’s concern about Sánchez’s plans against Madrid’s tax policy. That is why he proposed to launch a plan to reduce public spending immediately, which includes, among other things, reducing the number of deputies. He also calls for the elimination of 60 taxes in force in the Community of Madrid.
Where there is no meeting point is in the area of irregular immigration. Vox continues to demand the closure of the centers for unaccompanied foreign minors (menas) and accuses Ayuso of generating a call effect of irregular immigrants, specifically menas, to keep the centers open and rehabilitate La Cantueña in Fuenlabrada. According to him, the nine million that the regional government has so far dedicated to this center could be better spent on dependencies, retirement homes or special education.
The advisor and spokesperson for the presidency, Miguel Ángel García, described this first meeting as “very cordial” and thanked the proposals put forward by Vox and defended the Community’s low tax policy and the level of public spending, which allows maintaining “the highest possible level” of quality public services. “The spokesperson asked us to contain public spending and make cuts, but we explained to her that we are presenting balanced budgets.” In this sense, he announced that the 2025 budgets will be “austere and will seek balance.”
“In terms of taxes, he has not given us any contribution. The Community of Madrid has been reducing taxes for many years,” explained the councilor. “Vox always follows the policy of the Popular Party.”
On immigration, “Vox always points out the problem but does not provide the solution.” Faced with the “chaos of immigration,” the advisor believes that it is necessary to call the “window” of the Sánchez government. Once the minors arrive, he recalled that the communities have an obligation to take care of them. “Don’t be fooled by the window. The communities have a legal mandate to take care of minors. What the Vox spokesperson must do is join the PP government when we demand that the Sánchez government assume its powers and exercise border control.
