Moscow’s suspension of financial assistance to Sukhum does not mean a worsening of relations between Abkhazia and Russia, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
“Each country has its own obligations. It is simply a matter of maintaining a balance between these obligations, and our Abkhaz friends understand this very well.” – said the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Lavrov intends to meet with the Abkhaz Foreign Minister in the coming weeks Sergei Shamba.
As previously stated by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Abkhazia Vladimir DelbaThe Russian side has limited financial assistance to Abkhazia due to the republic’s failure to comply with the conditions of the programme to harmonize the legislation of the two countries.
“The individual points of this program have a deadline of implementation until August 1, 2024. Due to the Abkhaz side’s failure to comply with the conditions, the Russian side temporarily limited the provision of financial assistance in the amount of 141 million rubles.” – Delba explained.
Sergei Shamba previously described recent relations with Moscow as “confrontational.”
