The city authorities of Deerfield Beachin Florida (USA), reported the arrest of a minor 11 years old after a false bomb threat at a school in the city, located north of Miami.

The boy, who has not been identified, is being held at the juvenile assessment center, according to Broward Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Gerdy St. Louis.

The minor is charged with one count of “denunciation fake bombexplosive or weapon of mass destruction”.

The incident, which occurred around midday on Wednesday in the Somerset Key Academy and caused the temporary evacuation of students, is being investigated by the authorities.

“Under Florida law, whether spoken aloud, written in text or posted on social media, a person can be charged with a felony for making a written threat to kill, cause bodily harm or commit a shooting,” St. Louis said in an email to Local 10 News.

“Making threats against the school is not a joke,” the sheriff’s office said.

Under Florida law, whether said out loud, written in text, or posted on social media, a person can be charged with a serious crime for written threats to kill, cause bodily harm or carry out a mass shooting.

The incident occurred on the same day as another school shooting in the United States, which left two teachers and two students dead in Winder, Georgia.

The alleged perpetrator, Colt Gray, a student at 14 years old who surrendered to authorities, will be formally charged in the coming hours with four murders, among others.
