CaixaForum Madrid bets on Bauhaus and Alice in Wonderland in its new season

CaixaForum Madrid will host this 2024-2025 season exhibitions dedicated to the cultural impact of the world of Alice in Wonderlandin collaboration with the Victoria and Albert Museum in Londonto the turbulent years and the cultural explosion of Weimar Republicas well as the creativity and artistic sensibility of the people of the Pacific Islands, with the help of the British Museum.

CaixaForum Madrid will kick off its new season on October 16 with the exhibition “Uncertain Times. Germany Between the Wars”dedicated to the turbulent years of the Weimar Republic (1919-1933), during which The Germanic country sought to reestablish itself through democracy. which, not without tensions, led to an explosion of artistic creativity, thought and social progress.

With a combination of artwork, archival materials, films, music and historical documentsas well as interactive elements, this exhibition explores how, during this period “Uncertainty has become the zeitgeist.”

This circumstance was taken advantage of by the great figures who lived and distinguished themselves at the time and who shaped the current world, such as Thomas Mann, Käthe Kollwitz, Otto Dix, Jeanne Mammen and Albert EinsteinThe exhibition can be visited at the cultural center until February 23, 2025.

‘Alice’s Worlds. Dreaming of Wonderland’ will arrive on April 3 at CaixaForum Madrid with the largest exhibition dedicated to this Victorian cultural phenomenon, which is part of the current collective imagination, directed by the Victoria and Albert Museum.

This exhibition offers a broad vision of the impact and influence of this victorian worka cultural phenomenon in its magnitude and a source of inspiration for the most creative minds. The proposal claims the validity of the character of Alicealmost 160 years after its creation by Lewis Carroll, and presents it from a broad vision, protagonist of these different ‘worlds’ in which the character was reinterpreted.

The exhibition, on view until August 10, 2025 at the cultural center, delves into the history and context of the work, and reviews its interpretations from different disciplines: cinema, plastic arts, fashion or science.

Another highlight of the season is the exhibition “Voices of the Pacific. Innovation and tradition”which will arrive at CaixaForum Madrid on May 27 and will remain until September 21, 2025, in “a great celebration of the creativity and artistic sensitivity” of the people of the Pacific Islands, according to the organizers.

Oceania is a network of islands and cultures united by the Pacific. This ocean has not only been their livelihood, but has also inspired the development of their creativity. Fans and hooks, clubs and canoes, virtually everything is worked with decorations imbued with spiritual meaning.

This exhibition brings together over 200 pieces from the collections of the British Museum and several Pacific islands, and includes historical artefacts as well as works by contemporary artists that reflect the richness of Oceanic art. Historical and contemporary pieces range from ceremonial oars to basalt-carved ancestor figures.
