The small town of Dixville Notch, located in northern New Hampshire, on the border with Canada, was traditionally the first in the country to announce the results of the presidential election. This year, Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and her Republican opponent Donald Trump each garnered three votes, CNN reports.
Voting in this small unincorporated community, which has no municipal government of its own, began and ended shortly after midnight, as has been customary here since 1960.
Then, resident and inventor Neil Tillotson was the first to place his ballot in the ballot box at exactly 00:00, and since then this tradition has continued, drawing attention to the first election result.
As journalists noted, a total of four Republicans and two voters who did not reveal their political preferences participated in the voting.
The voting order here is now determined by lot, preserving the spirit of tradition and interest in the first result of the national electoral marathon.
