UNAMA tries to establish contacts between journalists and the Taliban*

Ministry of Information and Culture of the “Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan” (IEA, the proper name given to the country by the Taliban)*) and the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) organized a meeting of journalists and government representatives. The aim is to facilitate access to information and improve contacts with officials, TOLOnews reports.

Head of UNAMA Western Region Tomoko Kubota fixed:

“The public has the right to hear what is happening in the government and in different areas, so the media has a responsibility to report what is happening in the government, and the de facto government also has a responsibility to share what is happening, so I hope that today’s session will help improve mutual understanding.”

According to the head of the Committee for Support and Supervision of Journalists and Media in Herat Shamil Ahmad MashalThe aim of this initiative is to make it easier for journalists to access government information.

Deputy Minister of Information and Culture for Press Affairs Hayatullah Muhajir Farahi He said that similar meetings will be held in different provinces of the country in the coming days.

The adoption of the State Media Law and the Right to Access Information Law is one of the demands of Afghan journalists to the IEA. The Ministry of Information and Culture of the IEA promised that with the implementation of these laws, the activity of the media in the country will begin to be regulated.
