Hunter Biden decides to plead guilty to tax evasion charges

Hunter, the son of US President Joe Biden, intends to plead guilty in the case of tax evasion of at least $1.4 million. His lawyer, Abby Lowell, announced this today.

The conditions under which Hunter Biden decided to plead guilty were not disclosed, nor whether the judge would approve the deal, NBC reports.

“If the judge accepts the plea, it would spare Biden a public trial in which prosecutors relied on more than two dozen witnesses, some of whom were expected to give salacious testimony about Biden’s drug use and spending.” – the television channel reports.

Hunter Biden’s case began on Thursday in a federal court in the Central District of California. Prior to this, the defendant and his lawyers held a meeting with representatives of the prosecution.

The indictment says Biden “engaged in a four-year scheme to avoid paying at least $1.4 million” in federal taxes for tax years 2016 through 2019, “from in or about January 2017 through on or about October 15, 2020, and to evade tax assessments for tax year 2018 when he filed false returns in or about February 2020.”

Biden, 54, was charged in December with three felonies and six counts of failing to pay taxes while claiming to be addicted to drugs and after he had recovered.
