YouTube’s new policy against teenagers announced

Video hosting site YouTube will stop recommending content to teenagers that promotes beauty ideals and compares people’s appearance and physique.

Oku.Az This is reported with reference to Gazeta.ru.

“Working with the Advisory Committee, we have identified categories of content that may be harmless as individual videos, but may be problematic for some teens when viewed repeatedly,” the company’s official blog said.

YouTube added that the specified categories include content that compares physical characteristics, idealizes certain types of appearance over others, and idealizes certain levels of fitness or body weight.

As a result, the decision was made to limit the recommendation of such video content to teens worldwide. As the company notes, such content may be harmless in a single video frame, but may pose a threat to some teens when viewed repeatedly.
