Three workers of the cleaning service on the road of Barcelona received heat strokes during the period from Wednesday and Thursday. According to CGT, everyone is the employees of the FCC company, one of the four awards of this service.
One of the injured workers had to be treated at the medical center, which came on his own leg when his working day ended in the morning shift. There she already visited several hours. In the afternoon, the other employee was treated with medical services that were found with dizziness and with symptoms of a possible thermal stroke.
The third case was registered at the beginning of this Thursday and influenced the driver of the water vehicle, which required medical care. From the city council, they confirmed Eldiario.es that during the day there were various directions to medical centers, but in no case were hospitalizations.
These three cases are added to two other employees who, on Tuesday, were supposed to be sent to CAP for symptoms that coincide with the symbol of thermal stroke. All this, a few days after the death of Monts, an employee of the same service, also used by the FCC, who lost his life on Saturday after the completion of his turn.
In his case, he worked at a bend from 14:30. Until 9:30 pm. And he collapsed when he arrived home, where he was addressed for emergency services, but they could not do anything to save his life. The City Council asked for an autopsy to clarify whether he really died from a thermal blow. In anticipation of the results, the consistory agreed with the UGT syndicate – the majority – and four concession companies combine and revise protocols for high temperatures.
The main novelty is that the protocols of four companies – SACYR, FCC, Urbaser and Sorigué – will be combined so that everyone has the same conditions. It was also decided that thermal measures begin to be used from 34 degrees instead of 37. In these cases, the routes will be considered to avoid work under the sun in the central hours of the day. And, if 40 degrees are exceeded, the services will be suspended on foot. In addition, immediate use measures were taken, such as five minutes of permission every hour – in addition to those that have already been installed for breakfast and snacks – to drink water and protect from the sun. Isothermal bottles of one liter will also spread to each employee.
But from CGT they regret that the companies have not handed over to the staff of the new protocol, nor measures of future use or those that have already entered into force, such as five minutes. “We are the same or worse than Saturday,” said Christina Pinto, CGT delegate to FCC.
From this union, they warn that the template is “unprotected, with insufficient measures to guarantee health and safety.” They guarantee that there are employees who spend the whole day under the sun, and that they plan or routes to protect workers from high temperatures, are not adapted.
