Pavel Durov SPEAKS about his arrest in France

Pavel Durov, CEO of the Telegram messenger, has spoken for the first time about his arrest in France.

Oku.Az reports that the founder of the messenger said this on his “Telegram” channel.

Durov expressed his gratitude to all those who supported and cared for him. He said he was questioned by the police for four days after arriving in Paris. He noted that other users have been informed of possible personal liability for misuse of “Telegram”, as the French authorities have not received a response from the company.

Durov highlighted several points and noted that such claims surprised him. He noted that Telegram previously had an official representative in the European Union, who received and responded to queries from this region. The representative’s contact information is available to anyone seeking information about interactions with law enforcement agencies.

Secondly, the French authorities could have turned to him directly for help, given that he frequently visited the country’s consulate in Dubai and even helped them set up a hotline to fight terrorism in France.

The third point was related to the practice of working with Internet services. Durov stressed that if a country is not satisfied with the functioning of an online service, it is most common to file a lawsuit against it.

Durov acknowledged that it is difficult to strike a balance between privacy and security. He noted that data protection legislation must be coordinated with the requirements of law enforcement agencies and local and European laws must be taken into account.
