North Carolina was the first Swing States fall into the hands of Donald Trump. After a tense electoral evening and while the results are not yet completely finalized (95% have been counted), the Republican, who remained ahead of Kamala Harris throughout the vote, ultimately won all 16 electoral votes which belong to this State.
Although he managed to overtake his Democratic rival by a margin of up to seven points, the data ultimately points to a victory. tighter 51% versus 48%.
This is the third time that a former president has won in this state, after the victories of 2016 and 2020, when the Republicans won. Also in 2012, conservatives took control of the state. In fact, the last Democrat to win in North Carolina It was Barack Obama in 2008.
Several studies argue that turnout in areas where Trump won increased, while it decreased where there were more votes for Harris.
Georgia, a new battlefield
Trump also won (with more than 95% of the votes counted) in Georgia, another key state that has 16 electoral votes. It is the first state that Republicans take over Democratssince in 2020, it was the current Democratic President Joe Biden who won the territory. He thus became the first progressive to win the Southern state since 1992.
Four years ago, however, Biden was barely ahead of Trump. 12,000 votes. A very narrow margin which led the Republican candidate at the time to encourage the theory of electoral fraud.
These two victories are gone all the weight in Pennsylvaniawhere the most important battle of all is still being played out due to its large number of electoral votes (19). With 93% of the votes, Donald Trump wins by three points. The vote counting process can take several days. The loss of this state considerably reduces the Democratic candidate’s chances of presidential victory.
