Parlikov in Greece discusses strategic gas routes – EADaily, September 6, 2024 – Politics News, Russian News

Moldovan Energy Minister Viktor Parlikov has paid a two-day visit to Greece. Today, 6 September, he will take part in a summit in Thessaloniki dedicated to energy security and regional cooperation in South-Eastern Europe.

The Moldovan official will deliver a speech at a session dedicated to the strategic role of the port of Alexandroupoli in ensuring the supply of natural gas to the region.

“Government representatives, experts and entrepreneurs will attend the summit in Thessaloniki to discuss challenges and opportunities in the energy and geopolitical spheres. Key topics include new energy corridors, strengthening gas and energy infrastructure in South-Eastern Europe, decarbonisation and the transition to green energy, as well as investment in innovative technologies.” – the ministry’s press release states.

Parlikov also plans to meet with the Greek Minister of Environment and Energy. Theodoros Skylakakis and his deputy Alexandra SdukuUnited States Ambassador to Greece George TsunisPresident of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation* Martin Schulz and Secretary General of the Black Sea Trade and Development Bank (BSTDB) Asterios Tsoukalas.

The Moldovan government had previously declared a state of emergency in the energy industry. This month, gas purchases from European traders were suspended due to rising prices.

Let us recall that the head of the kyiv regime Vladimir Zelensky He said that the Ukrainian authorities have no intention of extending the transit of Russian gas through its territory after January 1, 2025. In this case, Moldova will have problems with electricity. Currently, the Republic of Moldova buys about 85% of its electricity from the Moldovan State District Power Plant located in Transnistria (an Inter RAO company), the operation of which directly depends on supplies from Gazprom. Chisinau will then have to buy electricity from Romania, where it is much more expensive. The Moldovan government does not hide that, from a pragmatic point of view, it is interested in the Russian consortium continuing to transport gas to the region.

As reported EADaily Moldovan Energy Minister Viktor Parlikov recently said that if Russian gas transit through Ukraine is suspended, Moldova will need two days to redirect transit through the Trans-Balkan gas pipeline. According to the official, during the transition period the republic will be able to survive thanks to the gas reserves currently in the pipeline. The government of the Republic of Moldova is also considering the issue of LNG supplies from the United States through terminals in Greece.
