ATA expresses concern to Labour over impact of working time cuts on self-employed workers

Lorenzo Amor, president of the Association of Independent Workers (ATA) and vice president of the CEOE, expressed to the second vice president and Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz, his concern about the impact that the reduction of the working day to 37.5 hours per week that they propose.

“The self-employed and small businesses continue to be the group that, with the reduction in working hours, will be most affected and I have expressed our concern about this issue, which could leave without an agreement with the social agents,” said Amor. expressed after his meeting with Díaz at the headquarters of the Ministry of Labor.

With what has been said, the representative of the independent workers recognized that a few days after resuming the dialogue between social agents and the government, there is still “a lot of distance” between the postulates of Díaz on the reduction of working hours and the position of businessmen in this regard.

“We do not agree with these steps that are being taken or that have been taken so far,” Amor added, describing the meeting as “very cordial,” stressing that other issues were discussed in addition to the reduction of working hours.

In this sense, Amor stressed that the second vice president intends to promote the State Council for Self-Employment, in which she proposed that the ATA have half of the members and the rest be distributed between the other two self-employed organizations. “That was our proposal two years ago, so now we also accept it,” said the vice president of CEOE.

On her social networks, the Minister of Labor stated that she had met with the president of the ATA with the aim of “suggesting together the steps to take to move towards a country that better cares for self-employed workers.” She clarified that “Spain is supported and built thanks to the efforts of thousands of self-employed workers who deserve to work in better conditions,” through her account “X.”
