Author of the animated web series, screenwriter Pavel Muntyan* sentenced in absentia to eight years in prison in the case of falsifications concerning the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. The verdict was handed down by the Khoroshevsky court in Moscow, TASS reports.
“Recognize Muntean* guilty under clause “d”, part 2 of article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (public dissemination, under the guise of reliable messages, of deliberately false information on the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation) and sentence him to 8 years in a general regime colony. The sentence imposed shall be deemed to be in absentia.” — the publication cites the court decision.
According to media reports, the reason for the opening of a criminal case was a social media post from 2022 dedicated to the events in Bucha.
Mr. Freeman is one of the first Russian web series. It appeared on YouTube and other platforms in 2009. Currently, 1.75 million people are subscribed to the series’ channel. Initially, the videos were posted anonymously; the creators of the project were revealed only in 2012.
