A resident of Taganrog, who was detained in the Belgorod region while trying to cross the state border to take part in military action against the Russian army, has been sentenced to nine years in a maximum security colony, the press service of the FSB Regional Directorate announced on September 6.
According to the intelligence service, a 23-year-old man tried to travel to Ukraine and join the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The Russian was detained by officers of the Russian FSB Directorate for the Belgorod region. He was found guilty under Part 1 of Art. 30, Art. 275 of the Russian Criminal Code (preparation for high treason) and Part 1 of Art. 30, Part 2 Art. 205.5 of the Russian Criminal Code (preparation to participate in the activities of a terrorist organization).
“He was sentenced to imprisonment for a period of nine years, with the first three years to be served, and the remainder of the prison term to be served for a period of six years in a maximum security correctional colony with restriction of liberty for a period of one year. The sentence has entered into legal force.” – the FSB said in a statement.
