Mongolia will have to explain why Putin was not arrested

The Hague believes that Mongolia should explain why Russian dictator Putin was not arrested during the visit. This statement was made by the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Khan.

BBC News reports this.

The ICC prosecutor said that negotiations with the judges are currently underway, and they can provide recommendations on what should be done and what to do in case of insufficient cooperation from Mongolia with the court. However, he noted that it is not yet possible to predict how the situation will develop, as the issue is being resolved between the judges and the Mongolian government.

Asked about the possibility of bringing Putin to trial in The Hague, Khan recalled that history shows examples where dictators such as Karadzic, Mladic and Milosevic ended up in the dock. He also mentioned Charles Taylor, who, despite his former power, was arrested and convicted.

By the way, a Mongolian government representative on Putin’s visit to this country on September 2-3 explained the decision not to arrest the Russian dictator by the fact that Mongolia is energy dependent on Russia, which complicated the possibility of Putin being detained under an ICC warrant for alleged war crimes in Ukraine. During that visit, activists unfurled a Ukrainian flag and held a banner reading: “Get out of here, war criminal Putin.”

Kursor wrote that residents of the frontline areas of the Kursk region are refusing to evacuate to safer places, fearing that their property may be looted, but not by Ukrainian, but by Russian military personnel.
