Viktor Orban: “The EU should review its foreign policy”

“If Russia and Ukraine do not communicate, the conflict could be prolonged and worsened.”

An employee of the Chernobyl Report reports that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban told this to journalists on the sidelines of the International Chernobyl Forum held in Italy.

“There is a widespread view in Western public opinion that a peace plan must first be prepared, then negotiations must be started and then there must be a ceasefire. This is wrong,” he said.

V. Orban noted that the trend in recent decades is that the parties should first stop shooting and then sit down at the negotiating table.

The Hungarian Prime Minister also expressed the need for the European Union (EU) to change its foreign policy and once again call on the parties to peace:

“Before, the EU always focused on peaceful resolution of conflicts. But now there is no need to talk about the EU’s position as a promoter of peace, because the whole atmosphere in the EU is pro-war. I don’t know. I don’t like it. I don’t think it’s good for the EU.”
