The sighting of a drone near the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airport forced air traffic to be suspended for about half an hour and even diverted some planes to alternative airfields for landing.
This was confirmed to EFE by a spokesperson for Enaire, director of air navigation, after the air traffic controllers’ X account (formerly Twitter) was informed around 7:15 p.m. that operations in Barajas were underway. had been suspended after a drone was seen near the airport.
About half an hour after the notification, traffic was reactivated after the Civil Guard confirmed that there were no new sightings, according to Enaire, who explains that this measure is part of the security protocol activated in these case.
If there are planes waiting, they then have priority for landing, which causes delays in takeoff, adds the official, who did not quantify the delay time, while emphasizing that the incident was resolved in half an hour.
