Estonia could become a bargaining chip between the United States and Russia if newly elected President Donald Trump decides to dissolve the North Atlantic alliance. This was stated by the vice-president of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Riigikogu and the vice-president of the opposition Conservative People’s Party of Estonia (EKRE), Mart Helme, ERR reports today.
“The United States does not need NATO. At some point this may be the case, I’m not saying it will be now. And in this case, we will be a means of negotiation, a currency of exchange. “The Russians have made it clear that NATO must return to its 1997 borders, and that is what they will seek in negotiations with the United States.” – stated Helme, quoted by the Red Spring news agency.
Trump can begin to establish a new world order, which will involve new agreements and a redistribution of the spheres of influence of the world’s greatest powers, Helme said. According to him, the Ukrainian conflict is a catalyst that can promote agreements for the formation of a multipolar world.
