Minister Torres hopes Feijóo will be “more constructive” and abandon the “permanent no”

The Minister of Territorial Policy, Angel Victor Torressaid this Friday that the leader of the PP, Alberto Nuñez Feijooreconsidered after the summer and “be more constructive”, so that the opposition begins to transfer proposals that help the Spanish and abandon the “permanent no”.

In statements to journalists, the regional secretary of the PSOE in the Canary Islands also expressed his hope that the PP “stops highlighting the defeats” of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, “even if it harms Spanish society”, on the occasion of the meeting that Feijóo held today with the regional presidents of his party.

A meeting that he described as “curious” in which the vice-president of the government of the Canary Islands and president of the PP in the islands, Manuel Domínguez, participated during the plenary session of the Parliament of the Canary Islands to address the problem of immigration in the Canary Islands.

According to Torres, the PP conclave “was a kind of game, trying to imitate the Spanish government,” as well as “a kind of presentation of its positions and proposals that are none other than those reflected in the plenary session of the Congress of Deputies on July 23.

He recalled that the PP had voted in this plenary session against the spending cap, which meant 300 million euros less for the Canary Islands; against the modification of a decree-law on personal income tax on the island of La Palma; and against the legislative modification of article 35 of the Immigration Law to respond to the fact that unaccompanied minors arriving in the Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla were redistributed throughout the rest of Spanish territory.

Torres stressed that “this is the policy of the PP, which turns its back on the economy, on humanitarian and social responses”, and that is why he trusted in change.

The leader of the Canary Islands socialists, who appeared before journalists after the meeting held by the regional executive of the PSOE in the islands, indicated that the current issues that will be transferred to the national committee of the party that will take place have been addressed tomorrow Saturday in Madrid.

Among them, he cited inter-territorial cohesion, regional financing, economic issues and “the irresponsibility of the opposition.”

Regarding the request of the president of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Rosa Dávila (CC), to urge the state government to change its interlocutor on migration, Torres considered that it is a “partisan statement and has nothing to do with what was said by the spokesperson and president of the Government of the Canary Islands”, who acknowledged that he was making “maximum efforts to resolve the situation of unaccompanied minors in the Canary Islands”.

The Minister of Territorial Policy added that the former president of the Canary Islands Adán Martín had requested a response for these minors 20 years ago, as had Paulino Rivero, Fernando Clavijo between 2015 and 2019 and himself when he was president, but he stressed that it has not been the case until now, when, for “the first time in history”, a modification of the immigration law has been submitted to the Congress of Deputies.

And this has been achieved thanks to the work of the President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, and the Ministry of Territorial Policy, stressed Torres, who added that what should be asked of Dávila is why the PP voted against the legislative amendment.

On the other hand, Torres announced that the PSOE of the Canary Islands would hold a regional committee on September 28 to report on the management of the supreme body between congresses.
