The Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation proposes to tighten the rules regarding passengers with children: airlines may have to seat adults with a child under 14 years old in adjacent seats. Kommersant reports about it.
The only exceptions may be cases where there are no free shared seats on board at the time of check-in of said passengers.
At the end of October, the ministry sent modifications to the Federal Aviation Rules (FAP-82) to the Association of Air Transport Operators (AEVT). The letter, available to the publication, states that the changes were prepared “taking into account passenger complaints and the resources of the Attorney General’s Office.” Currently, these rules are advisory in nature and apply only to passengers with children under 12 years of age.
“For a low-cost airline, this is (the introduction of an innovation. — EADaily) will lead to a decrease in income of 30% annually”, — a source from AEVT told Kommersant.
According to him, in the context of sanctions pressure, “this could have significant negative financial consequences for the industry.”
