British Prime Minister Keir Starmer congratulated Donald Trump on his victory in the US presidential election in a telephone conversation, the prime minister’s press service reported.
The Republican’s victory was described as “historic” in the office. Starmer said he was willing to work closely with the newly elected US president.
“The leaders agreed that the relationship between the UK and the US – from defense and security to economic growth – is strong and will continue to flourish in the years to come.” – says the message.
Politicians exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East and Starmer highlighted the need for stability in the region.
Official election results have not yet been announced. However, Trump obtained more than 290 electoral votes out of the 270 needed. During his address to voters, he proclaimed himself the 47th president of the United States.
The Republican has already been congratulated by some world leaders, including the presidents of Ukraine, France, Israel, as well as the Secretary General of NATO and the UN and the head of the European Commission, RBC recalls.
