He Fustiñana Town Hall will transform one of its streets into a ‘landing strip’. Concretely, it is the San Isidro Streetwhich will be closed to traffic from this Friday every day of the week of the school year between 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. and 2:15 p.m.
The goal is ensure road safety in the school entrances and exits of the city, but the riverside municipality wanted to transform this initiative into a promotional campaign in a fun and informal way responsible behavior in matters of road safety between children and their families.
So he decided to turn San Isidro Street into a “school runway“. With this slogan, and asking “keep the track clear“, the city council has prepared a series of documents containing advice for drive safely whether by bike, on foot or by car.
In order for these advices to be taken in a pleasant manner, the Consistory also plans to carry out aircraft launching competitions of paper, of airplane decoration and of drawing.
At the end of the campaign, the City Council will give each student a “school pilot license» which certifies that the boy or girl «has accomplished in an extraordinary way the Safe School Landing Program so that it always continues to circulate with caution and safety.
He mayor of the city, Sergio Vitasunderstood “the inconveniences that this measure may cause at first”, but explained that “the City Hall is continuing ensuring the safety of the little ones “in one of the riskiest moments due to the number of vehicles and people concentrated in a very specific environment.”
Furthermore, he explained that “closing the street allows us to achieve an action not only for traffic and safety, but also educational and pedagogical, involve boys and girls in promoting civic behavior and active mobility, by bike or on foot, in a fun way.
“By promoting road safety education and active, sustainable and safe mobility at school age, we not only raise awareness of the risks of some of your current behaviorsbut we also make it easier for them to become responsible adults in the future,” he stressed.
