Clavijo asks to negotiate the distribution of miners with the government, the PP and the Junts

The President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo (CC), demanded this Friday a negotiation for the distribution of migrant minors who arrive at the archipelago in which its Executive, the Government of Spain, the Popular Party and the Juntas participate.

“At least we have to try, no one has explained to me why it has not been tried,” Clavijo assured during his appearance at the plenary session of the Canary Islands Parliament.

The Canarian president defended the need for PP and Juntas participate in the negotiations because they were them They opposed Congress to the admission to the processing of the draft law agreed between the governments of the Canary Islands and Spain for the distribution of minors among the autonomous communities.

The government of the Canary Islands “will not be complicit in the normalisation of an extraordinary situation”, nor in the fact that migrant minors see their rights violated, nor in the fact that “the Canarian people alone bear the entire burden”. migratory pressure“I come from the African continent,” said the president of the Canaries.

He accused the Spanish government of “looking the other way”, of not taking initiative and of pretending that everything is “very complicated”. But, for Clavijo, “it’s not difficult” apply the same criteria for the distribution of minors agreed by the communities during the sectoral conference for some 400 migrants as for several thousand.

The President said that on August 12 there had been “a discreet” and “informal” meetingwhich was later made public by the PSOE, in which the Spanish government, represented by Minister Ángel Víctor Torres, and the PP participated, but the central executive has not yet fulfilled the commitment made.

The Spanish government has committed to transferring a vacancy report and migrant minors spread across the country and carry out two simulations on their distribution, but “the days go by” and the information does not arrive, he lamented.

Clavijo recalled that, faced with the migration crisis and “the impossibility of welcoming more minors”, the government of the Canary Islands decided this week to “review the procedures” with the aim of “protecting” the rights of minors and autonomous community workers, while “giving legal cover” to NGOs.

This is why the judicial services were tasked with “analyzing the situation”, not “against anyone”, but “in favor of the minors and their rights”, as well as those of the workers, explained the regional president.

During his appearance, Clavijo reviewed the meetings and actions carried out on immigration during this legislature, including the agreement reached with the Spanish government to modify the Immigration Law.

This edit failed because PP and Junts voted against after the Spanish government failed to negotiate with them to meet their demands, he recalled.

He added that after this refusal by Congress, he sought political unity and meeting spaces to try to agree on a solution, from which the discreet meeting of August 12 was born.

“If there is a desire to reach an agreement, the Spanish government, the government of the Canary Islands, the PP and the Junts will come to the table,” proposed the president of the Canary Islands, who stressed that the Popular Party governs with the majority of the autonomous communities.
