Following Íñigo Errejón’s letter, his resignation and the circumstances that led to it, I thought not only about his possible faults but, above all, about something much broader and which worries me more than his specific case. It is obvious, and let’s go ahead, that any sexual assault is one assault too many, that no one has the right to force another person to do things they do not want to do, no matter how small the this person in national politics. , in the world of art, sports or any other medium, but what really upsets me is that we live in a society in which it seems that when you reach the highest political level, it is it is no longer possible to stay clean, to stay decent, to stay true to the principles with which a career whose goals were so desirable began.

Reading this letter gives the impression that moral corruption is inevitable when one becomes a leading politician. And that’s what worries me. Doubly too. Because, if it is true that in ten years a young and idealistic man necessarily becomes someone centered on himself, who rejects all empathy, who takes drugs to survive in the environment in which he lives, who confuses person with character, who sexually assaults a woman, we cannot allow our politicians to serve more than one mandate, at the risk of finding ourselves governed by corrupt egocentrics who do not even respect the personal dignity of their neighbors and the use for their private relief, considering themselves superior to the rest of the population. the population. On the other hand, it particularly pains me that this is a man of the left who has worked for ten years, at least in words, for many goals that I consider necessary for the entire population. With this, something similar to what happened to me when the first cases of pedophilia in the Catholic Church were made public: sexual violence is always a terrible crime, but when it is committed by someone who considers themselves a representative of God on Earth and is expected to follow a strict moral code, things are infinitely worse.
