During an interview on the podcast ‘Inside Line’, in addition to talking about the Fernando Alonso’s frustrated signing, Helmut Marko stopped in front of another driver.
The Red Bull advisor recalled that five years ago they were talking with Lando Norris about the possibility of signing for AlphaTauri and having the chance to join the energy drink team.
“We had serious discussions and we had a contract ready for Lando Norris for AlphaTauri or Toro Rosso, at that time [para 2019]” said Marko.
However, a clause in the Briton’s contract with McLaren ruined everything.
“And unfortunately, they [McLaren] They found out…and there was a clause that ended this cooperation with Lando” explains the advisor.
Today, five years later, the Briton is the big favourite to snatch the title from Verstappen, who retains a considerable advantage, but who has the fourth car on the grid.
