A magnitude 5 earthquake was recorded off the coast of New Zealand.

The epicentre of the earthquake was 316 kilometres northeast of the town of Hicks Bay, home to around 1,300 people. The earthquake is located at a depth of 23 km.
There are no reports of casualties or damage. No tsunami threat has been declared.
