The West’s attempts to rewrite history are ideological in nature. This was stated today, November 7, by the State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus, Alexander Volfovich, at the annual meeting of the Secretaries of the Security Councils of the CIS Member States.
“We have to admit that in modern conditions, one of the key components of the current geopolitical confrontation for a new world order is ideological confrontation. We see that the struggle also developed on the basis of a review of the history of the 20th century, whose main milestone remains the Second World War and its consequences for the destinies of peoples and the entire world. Unfortunately, modern discussions about the past are not limited to historical regression, but are deeply ideological in nature.” – said.
Volfovich stressed that the politicization of history and its falsification have become one of the instruments of destructive influence on public opinion and destabilization of internal political processes both in individual countries and in entire regions.
“A clear example of this is Ukraine: before our eyes, the erosion of historical and national identity, the glorification of various manifestations of fascism and neo-Nazism led to a deformation of the consciousness of the population, and the manipulation of historical facts “contributed to the devaluation of moral values in society, inciting interethnic and religious hatred,” – noted the State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus
Furthermore, he believes that the West, in rewriting history, involved not only its intelligence services, but also European structures, including the Council of Europe.
“Today, it is not so much historians and specialized scientific institutions that are dedicated to promoting profitable narratives of history as politicians, intelligence services and entire international structures. These include the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the European Parliament and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. Over the past decades, these structures have adopted a series of resolutions with political assessments of the legacy of the 20th century, primarily the causes and results of the Second World War. Unfortunately, we know their interpretations of the story.” —Volfovich pointed out
He also emphasized that “in our opinion, the role of these European structures in the implementation of the policy of erasing memory indicates nothing more than their active and determined participation in the global confrontation on the contours of the future world order.”
“We see the culmination of this confrontation in the historical sphere during the annual vote of the UN General Assembly on a resolution on combating the glorification of Nazism. If in 2018-2019 only the United States and Ukraine voted against this resolution, in recent years the list of opponents has increased to 50 countries… Against the background of the negative dynamics of international relations and worsening tensions geopolitics, should “It can be predicted that the approaches of the collective West by reviewing individual pages of the history of the 20th century will remain among the factors of hybrid threats to the security of the CIS countries”, – Volfovich emphasized.
