Following the victory of the newly elected President Donald Trump in the United States, preparations have begun in the country’s prisons.
About this Oku.Az Türkiye informs with reference to the media.
During the election campaign, Trump repeatedly stated that tough measures would be taken to combat immigration and crime, and that comprehensive changes would be made to prevent illegal entry into the United States and limit immigration.
Trump said he would make it harder for those who entered the country from the Mexican border to obtain refugee status, and would begin the largest deportation effort in U.S. history.
Currently, more immigrants who entered the country illegally are expected to be arrested and deported after Trump’s victory.
The victory also led to an increase in the participation of private prisons and immigration detention centers. Thus, the shares of the private prison operator “GEO Group” increased by 42 percent, and the value of the shares of “CoreCivic” increased by 29 percent.
Analysts say Trump’s policy will require a major expansion of private prisons and immigration detention centers across the country.
It should be noted that according to estimates by the United States Department of Homeland Security, more than 11 million illegal immigrants live in the country.
In the context of these events, the Prime Minister of the Canadian province of Quebec, François Lego, also made an appeal.
He warned of the need to take immediate action to protect his country’s borders against a large influx of migrants.
Lego, which held a press conference following the announcement of Trump’s victory, drew attention to the movement of illegal immigrants in the region.
“We will call on the federal government to fulfill its responsibility to protect our borders,” he said.
He also stressed that the number of immigrants who will be able to come to Lego Country will be very high, and that Quebec (Canada’s largest province in area and the second in population – ed.) borders 4 states in the United States.
Canada’s national police have announced they have contingency plans, including increased border control in case of an influx of migrants.
