The Valladolid public prosecutor’s office is asking for a year in prison for a hate crime against a man who, in June 2023, after having drunk several drinks in a bar in the capital without paying, allegedly addressed the waitress in an offensive tone. , simply because of its Latin origin: “I hope Vox wins and they put you in boats to throw you out!” ”, is one of the “subtleties” put in the mouth of the accused.
In addition to the custodial sentence for crimes of hatred and discrimination, in contradiction with the norms, with crimes against moral integrity, the public prosecution requests that Mariano HP be sentenced to a fine of 2,700 euros and a ban special of the profession or educational trade, in which sports and leisure for four years and the ban on approaching within two hundred meters and communicating with the victim, as well as the payment of compensation of one thousand euros in favor of the injured person, according to what judicial sources have informed Europa Press.
In its account of the events, which will be the subject of the trial this Wednesday, November 13, the Valladolid prosecutor’s office refers to a first visit by the accused to the Taberna Castiza bar, located on Nueva del Carmen street, made around 2 p.m. on November 4, 2023. On this occasion, Mariano ordered a wine and left the establishment shortly after without paying for the drink.
He returned to the bar the same day, around 9 p.m., where he again ordered another wine. The waitress, of Salvadoran origin, told him that she was going to charge him for this wine and the previous one that he had left unpaid, a warning to which the accused responded with a first refusal then, still according to the thesis of the ministry public, tries to humiliate the worker because he is a foreigner.
“You shameless bitch, you are here sucking from the bottle, all Latinas are the same, you are disgusting and you only give me leftovers”, are some of the sentences that the accused allegedly addressed to the waitress, who finally managed to get the customer out of the establishment after asking him insistently.
But the accused returned a third time, an hour and a quarter later, and spoke again in an offensive tone to the same worker, who at that time was sweeping the terrace and to whom he insulted thus: “I’m going to go to Immigration to see if you’re illegal and I’ll make sure they send you back to your fucking country, I hope Vox wins and they put you on boats to send you back to your fucking country!” , similar sentences which, supposedly, he had already addressed previously on unspecified dates to the same waitress and to another of his colleagues, also a foreigner.
The situation described and the expressions attributed to the accused caused the injured person to experience feelings of humiliation and attack on their dignity, as well as anxiety and fear in the face of a possible repetition of the events.
