Top model Elle MacPherson, one of the great fashion icons of the 90srevealed that she had been suffering from breast cancer for seven years and was refusing to treat it with chemotherapy, opting instead for a “a holistic approach”.
“It was a ‘shock,’ something unexpected, confusing and discouraging in many ways,” he confesses of his feelings upon learning of the diagnosis in an interview with The Weekly magazine to mark his 60th birthday and the publication of his memoir, simply titled “Elle,” now in bookstores.
He justifies that for his treatment he needed “Be true” to yourself and “trust the nature” of his body, which is why, after several weeks of seeking advice (he is talking specifically about 32 doctors and experts), he chose to rely on his family doctor, who specializes in “integrative medicine”.
It is a discipline that integrates alternative medicine with conventional medicine and thus uses “a combination of therapies and lifestyle changes to treat and heal the whole person.”
“Saying no to standard medical solutions was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. But saying no to my inner self would have been even harder,” he wrote in his book, a decision he would later admit he knew he would need. Many did not want to share, including family members, which would lead many others to think she was “crazy.”
According to him, after following this type of holistic treatment for eight months in Phoenix (USA), his cancer is “in traditional terms, in remission.”
“I would say I am in complete well-being. And I am! In every way, every blood test, every scan, every imaging test… but also in the emotional, spiritual and mental aspect, not just physically,” he emphasizes.
