British authorities have discovered a mass grave of newborn children in the English county of Greater Manchester.
According to The Times, citing local government sources, 300 bodies were found in this large grave. Most of them are babies born without any signs of life.
The material suggests that similar burials may exist across the UK, as until the 1980s, stillborn children were buried by hospitals, rather than by their parents.
The police learned about the existence of such burials from an elderly woman who gave birth to twins 53 years ago who died immediately after birth. She said that all these years she had been searching unsuccessfully for where her children were buried.
The paper says, citing the charity Sands, that stillborn babies are often buried in a mass grave.
According to volunteers, there are also mass graves containing the remains of stillborn children in the counties of Lancashire, Devon, and in the cities of Middlesbrough and Huddersfield.
