Russia broke the Doha agreement on stopping attacks on the energy sector by bombing Ukraine

Closed negotiations were held in early August in the Qatari capital of Doha between representatives of Ukraine and Russia, with Qatar acting as a mediator. For the first time since the Minsk Agreements, the delegations of the Russian Federation and Ukraine reached a definite agreement. However, not for long.

This is what Le Monde reports.

The deal was seen as a step toward easing tensions in the region and an attempt to prevent further destruction of vital infrastructure.

However, the compromise was short-lived. Russia broke the agreement after the start of the offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region. The Russian side considered these actions a serious violation of the peace agreements and resumed attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.

The situation escalated again, with both sides once again using attacks on key infrastructure as a combat tactic. The incident highlights the fragility of any agreement in an ongoing conflict and shows how difficult it is to achieve long-term peace and stability in the region.

The Doha talks were one of the few attempts by the international community to help achieve a temporary truce between Ukraine and Russia. Qatar’s involvement as a mediator also shows that Gulf countries are playing an increasingly active role in global diplomacy.

However, the failure of this agreement highlights how difficult it is to maintain peace agreements in the face of ongoing conflict and mutual distrust.

Earlier, Kursor reported that 19 people were injured as a result of the massive combined attack in Ukraine on August 26. Critical infrastructure was affected in the Russian Federation, so there is no electricity in many regions of Ukraine and there are also gaps in water supply.
