Malaga will not just regulate tourist apartments, but will go further. The director of Urban Planning, José María Morente, recognized Thursday, as part of a presentation at the Mediterranean Real Estate Exhibition (Simed), that we were already working on a “tool” to regulate the proliferation of tourist apartments, apartments and hotels.

Malaga had already declared war on tourist apartments, notably in 43 neighborhoods. After a saturation study of this type of tourist accommodation, it was determined that all the areas where these apartments exceeded the 8% of the number of housing units loved ones available.

A modification of the PGOU, awaiting approval, means that new authorizations can only be granted until reach the maximum limit expected 8%. Only in neighborhoods that have not been determined to be saturated can more apartments of this type be registered.

However, Mayor Francisco de la Torre declared a week after this announcement that the City Hall was studying a total ban on new registrations of tourist apartments in the municipal register. According to him, he had asked the Department of Urban Planning to find the legal framework that would allow This limitation is possiblewithout it being a temporary moratorium.

Today, it is the town planning manager who goes further and affirms that this regulation is also being studied for apartments and hotels of less than four stars. “We must respond to demand for high purchasing power“, he said during the conference.
