The Superior Court of Justice of the Basque Country (TSJPV) has rendered an “unfavorable” judgment to the authorization granted by the Basque Government to the “Viñedos de Álava” label. In this way, Basque justice accepts the appeal of the Regulatory Council of the Qualified Designation of Origin (DOCa) Rioja against the authorization granted by the Basque Executive to this project, promoted by a group of wineries from Alava to differentiate from the rest of the DOCa Rioja wines.
The Minister of Food, Rural Development, Agriculture and Fisheries, Amaia Barredo, announced that the Superior Court of Justice of the Basque Country (TSJPV) issued a “unfavorable” decision to the authorization granted by the Basque Government with the ‘Viñedos de Álava’ seal.
Barredo, in statements to the media of the Basque Parliament, explained that the legal services of the Autonomous Government have just received the sentence, which accepts the appeal of the Regulatory Council of the Qualified Designation of Origin (DOCa) Rioja against the authorization granted by the Basque Executive to this project, promoted by a group of Alava wineries in order to differentiate itself from the rest of the DOCa Rioja wines.
The advisor explained that the Basque Government’s lawyers told her that it was a “unfavorable” resolution to the “protection” granted at the time with the “Viñedos de Álava” seal as its own designation of origin.
In any case, he declared that he could not provide further information on this subject, given that he had not yet “had access” to the judgment. Barredo said that once the TSJPV resolution is studied, The Executive will decide whether to appeal on appeal or if you choose to “reject” the process of recognizing this seal.
