Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian has announced the country’s government’s intention to move the capital further south.

According to Pezeshkia, Tehran can no longer remain the main city of the republic for economic reasons.
The president clarified that it would be more appropriate for the new capital to be located near the shores of the Persian Gulf.
It should be noted that the current capital is located in the north of Iran, at the foot of the Elbrus mountain range, 90 km south of the Caspian Sea coast. Tehran was the main city of the country in 1786.
