The Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, accused the French President, Emmanuel Macron, the German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, and the Polish Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, leaders of the Weimar Triangle countries, of hypocrisy.
European leaders issued a joint statement calling on Georgia to repeal the law on foreign agents.
“Let everyone stop being hypocrites and be guided by the values that we, all Europeans, really defend, not only the different EU Member States, but also Georgia as a European country.” – said Papuashvili.
The law on foreign agents is consistent with European values, as it requires transparency in spending, while the European Union “spends money in Georgia in a non-transparent manner,” Papuashvili emphasized.
According to him, radical political parties in Georgia are financed from the EU budget and NGOs that used subsidies to monitor the elections are involved in subversive activities, alleging violations.
“Several million-dollar foreign-funded NGOs have declared war on Georgian democracy,” – said Papuashvili.
