DECLARATION of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan on Victory Day

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan issued a statement on November 8, Victory Day.

Oku.Az reports that the statement says:

“Today marks 4 years since the Shusha victory, which decided the fate of the 44-day Patriotic War, which ended almost 30 years of occupation and military aggression and created new realities and historic opportunities for peace in the region. , which marked the beginning of a new era for our country and region, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham According to Aliyev’s order, Victory Day is celebrated.

Despite the serious economic, social and humanitarian consequences of Armenia’s military aggression and occupation for almost 30 years and the serious violation of our territorial integrity and sovereignty, Azerbaijan has been a party that continuously strives to resolve the conflict peacefully.

However, Armenia continues the illegal military occupation and takes measures to maintain its results, continues its illegal activities in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, violates the negotiation process and resorts to unacceptable rhetoric such as “new wars for new territories” and “Karabakh is Armenia.” They are not a peaceful solution to the conflict and the solution process has failed.

In continuation of Armenia’s political provocations, the next large-scale attack on September 27, 2020 forced Azerbaijan to take measures in accordance with the right of self-defense established in the UN Charter. The counteroffensive operation that began on that date, the 44-day Patriotic War, was the beginning of the path to victory.

In attempting to continue the illegal military occupation, Armenia continued the practice of attacking the civilian population to undermine the resolve of our people to fight, and committed serious war crimes against the civilian population in densely populated regions such as Ganja, Barda, Tartar, that are far from the regions where operations are carried out.

However, during the Patriotic War, as a result of the determination and bravery of the Glorious Army of Azerbaijan led by Commander-in-Chief Muzaffar, Jabrayil, Fuzuli, Zangilan, Gubadli and the cities of Shusha, which have special symbolic value and importance for the Azerbaijani people, including more than 300 settlements, was liberated from occupation. The Shusha victory achieved on November 8 ensured the return of the occupied regions of Kalbajar, Aghdam and Lachin to our country with the tripartite declaration of November 10, 2020.

Immediately after the Patriotic War, Azerbaijan launched a peace initiative in the region and declared that its vision and regional approach are based on building sustainable peace.

However, the failure of the Armenian side to withdraw the occupying forces from our territories in flagrant violation of the tripartite declaration, its continuous military and political provocations, the illegal exploitation of our natural resources and the threat of landmines threatening the lives and health of our citizens are against the Armenian armed forces, which are remnants of the occupation period, and the so-called regime created by Armenia in our territories required the implementation of anti-terrorist measures.

Thus, the 44-day Patriotic War, which resulted in the guarantee of our territorial integrity and sovereignty, and the anti-terrorist measures implemented in the Karabakh region resulted in the creation of historic conditions for the consolidation of sustainable peace.

Currently, important progress has been made in bilateral negotiations on the draft peace agreement with Armenia at the initiative of our country.

At the same time, despite the progress of the negotiations, challenges and threats to the successful conclusion of the peace process still remain. In particular, in the context of the current territorial claims against our country in the Constitution of Armenia, as well as the existence of parties pushing this country towards military aggression again, the militarization of Armenia is an obstacle to sustainable peace.

Armenia should learn from history and understand once and for all that there is no end to territorial claims against its neighbors.

On November 8, Victory Day, we commemorate our martyrs who died for the territorial integrity of our country with deep respect and gratitude, we wish good health to our war heroes, development and prosperity to our country, our people, peace and tranquility to our region and world.

Happy Victory Day!”
