At the railway permanent checkpoint (RPCP) in Zabaikalsk, customs officials from Russia and China conducted training courses to combat smuggling of radiation hazardous objects. Representatives of the state corporation Rosatom participated in the event.
“International Russian-Chinese exercises were held at the Zabaikalsk railway crossing to suppress the smuggling of radioactive materials. Representatives of Rospotrebnadzor and Rosatom also participated in the event.” — noted the press service of the Federal Customs Service of Russia.
As the agency points out, according to legend, the radioactive sources were illegally exported from Russia by hiding them in the platform of a wagon. The container with uranium ore was seized and transferred to a specialized organization.
“During the exercise, customs officials practiced joint practical actions to detect and locate radiation sources, as well as a mechanism for information interaction between countries by notifying the return of objects identified as having a radiation risk,” – highlighted the Federal Customs Service of Russia.
They noted that from September 1, 2024, the exchange of notifications at the checkpoint of the Zabaikalsk-Manchuria railway began to operate.
“It is currently organized into 15 adjacent checkpoints on the Russian-Chinese border.” – added the department.
