Since the beginning of the year, 13.5 billion cubic meters of water have flowed through the Ili River from the Kapshagai reservoir to Lake Balkhash, el.kz reports.

More than 70% of the lake’s water comes from the transboundary Ili River, and this year at the Dobyn gauging station on the border with China, a water flow of 384 cubic meters per second was recorded, 17% more than the last year. figures.
Currently, the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of Kazakhstan is working on a draft intergovernmental agreement with China on the distribution of transboundary rivers. The objective of the agreement is to ensure a stable supply of water necessary to maintain Lake Balkhash at an optimal level.
