Democratic members of the US Congress condemned the killing of US citizen Aysenur Ezgi Eigi in Judea and Samaria and called for Israel to be held accountable for the incident.
As is known, Ezgi Eigi, 26, a pro-Palestinian activist, was shot in the head during protests against settlement expansion in Judea and Samaria on Friday, September 6. Witnesses say that during the weekly anti-settlement demonstration, some participants began throwing stones at Israeli soldiers, who responded with fire.
However, a witness told the Associated Press that the situation had already calmed down when Eigi was shot and that she did not pose a threat to IDF forces. Our military claims that it “opened fire on the main instigator of violent acts” in the area, as a result of which a “foreign citizen” was killed.
They added that “details of the incident and the circumstances in which she was killed are currently being examined.”
Earlier, Cursor wrote that the United Nations demanded a “thorough investigation” into the killing of a US citizen of Turkish origin during a demonstration near Nablus. Stéphane Dujarric, spokesman for the UN Secretary-General, expressed the hope that a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the killing would be carried out and that those responsible would be brought to justice.
Cursor has also reported that Turkey has condemned the killing of an activist during a demonstration in the area of the town of Beita, near Nablus.
