Karabakh: the ancient homeland of Azerbaijan. Until 4 years ago, we used to talk about Karabakh in the past tense and sometimes started our sentences with “wish.” But today the realities of our language and our lives have changed. Now we celebrate the days when our land was liberated.
This freedom is not only the restoration of justice, but also made Azerbaijan the main power in the region in the political and military sense. The defeat of Armenia, on the one hand, laid the foundation for our eternal return to our lands and, on the other hand, destroyed the myth of a strong Armenian army that the invaders tried to impose on the world.
This victory is the restoration of international justice by Azerbaijan. The people of Azerbaijan showed the whole world with their sensitivity in defending the Homeland that they did not accept the occupation and further strengthened their internal unity. Thanks to the great victory, the mood and motivation of the public improved. With the victory in Karabakh, a very strong public social capital was formed in Azerbaijan. The integrity of the nation-state was guaranteed.
The essence of the second Karabakh war, the just war of Azerbaijan, was to withdraw the units of the Armenian army from the occupied lands of Azerbaijan and end the occupation.
Experts claim that the Second Karabakh War is the largest military operation that has taken place in the South Caucasus region since the 90s of the last century. This war has attracted the attention of many foreign researchers and experts both due to the modernity of the technology used and the specificity of combat tactics.
The Azerbaijani army’s attack was based on detailed reconnaissance, destruction by fire and improvised explosive device attacks. The political leadership of Armenia was wrong in terms of the balance of forces, capabilities and military capabilities, as well as in the organization of defense. With the liberation of Shusha on November 8, the Armenian government finally realized that all its efforts were in vain and that signing the capitulation document was inevitable.
Separatist Arayik Arutyunyan, emphasizing the importance of Shusha, once said that the party that controls Shusha controls Karabakh. The Karabakh Victory has become a dividing line in our history. Just as four years ago we classified processes as periods “before independence – after independence”, we now approach our history of independence with the distinction “before Victory – after Victory”.
