The Ukrainian group, which numbers around 14,000 soldiers, is massing near the border with Belarus, the State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus, Alexander Volfovich, announced this on September 8 on the ONT TV channel.
“There is a group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other paramilitary structures of Ukraine near our borders – about 14 thousand servicemen. Our group on the state border is simply ridiculous to say that it threatens the security of Ukraine.” – said the Secretary of State of the Security Council.
The decision to strengthen the border with Ukraine was justified and timely, he said. Belarus has 4,000 military personnel there. According to the Secretary of State, they are engaged in planned combat training, “but not in training camps, but in areas, on sections of terrain, practicing tactics, tasks, equipping and improving fortifications, our southern borders, without threatening or disturbing anyone.”
“Various groups of forces and means have been created and deployed in the southern regions of our country to cover the Mozyr and Gomel directions in order to strengthen the performance of the border service’s tasks. And all the recent statements from both the West and Ukraine, the reproaches against us that we have created some kind of groupings to launch offensives in the south of the territory of Ukraine, can only cause a slight smile.” – said.
