Trump’s victory in the United States raises concern at the UN – Reuters

Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential election has become a cause of concern for the United Nations.

Reuters reports this.

The UN is experiencing a sense of déjà vu and some unease over possible cuts to US funding and changes to interactions with global organizations if Trump wins a second term, according to a senior diplomat focused on Asian affairs.

While the diplomat expressed cautious optimism about Trump’s possible cooperation with the UN, he noted that his administration could refuse to fund some projects. However, he emphasized that the UN remains an important global platform for solving global problems.

Reuters also emphasized that Trump has not yet made clear foreign policy statements for a second term, but his supporters believe his “peace through strength” approach can strengthen US influence internationally. In particular, Trump promised to end the war in Ukraine and support Israel in conflicts with Hamas and Hezbollah.

Among the UN’s top concerns is the possibility that the United States could significantly reduce its funding and withdraw from key international organizations such as the World Health Organization or abandon its commitments to the Paris climate agreement. The United States represents a significant portion of the UN budget and any move to cut funding could have a major impact on the organization’s work.

Previously, The New York Times wrote that Trump’s victory could cause tension and become a test for European countries, as Trump has repeatedly criticized NATO for insufficient defense spending by some countries and suggested that Europe support more actively to Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Finnish President Alexander Stubb suggested that with Trump’s return to power a new stage of peace negotiations could begin to resolve the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Stubb believes Trump could initiate meetings with both Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Previously, Kursor reported that Trump would reconsider US policy toward Iran.

Iran welcomed Trump’s return with concern.
