The advisor to the Presidency, Luis Miguel González Gago, highlighted this Friday the 380 collaboration agreements with the Catholic Church in subjects such as culture, education, health or the social sphere. This assessment took place during his participation in the inauguration of the XLIV Social Week of Spain, whose edition has the motto “Dialogue, path for the Church”, organized by the Spanish Episcopal Conference in Valladolid this Friday and SATURDAY.
González Gago defended that dialogue, the key concept around which this social week is structured, is the basis of the policy of the Junta de Castilla y León and of its work and collaboration with other institutions.
Precisely, at the cultural level, the collaboration of the Council in the conservation of churches and hermitages of the dioceses of Castilla y León. In the educational field, he highlighted the important agreements for improving the quality of education concerted teaching and adequate provision of educational materials.
Concerning health, he indicated that the autonomous administration guarantees the Catholic religious assistance in hospitals who depend on it. Finally, from a social point of view, there are numerous commemorations and celebrations that the Council has organized in collaboration with this religious institution, among which the organization of the Ages of Man stands out, as well as many other anniversaries or commemorations.
During the opening session, the Apostolic Nuncio to Spain, Bernardito Auza, spoke; the Archbishop of Valladolid and President of the Spanish Episcopal Conference, Luis Argüello García; and the president of Semanas Sociales, Jesús Allezuela Cárcel.
The first conference was entitled “From globalization to polarization”, given by Massimo Borghessi, from the University of Perugia (Italy).
Dialogue to discover riches
During the inauguration, the Apostolic Nuncio to Spain, Bernardito Auza, in addition to thanking and highlighting the importance of this Week, read the letter sent by the Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, with the message and the apostolic blessing of Pope Francis to the participants in Social Week LXIV.
The Pope, in his writings, encourages us to reflect on the importance of dialogue, “which helps us to discover the richness and dignity of each human being, created in the image of God”, value what unites us and see differences as opportunities for growth with respect for all.
For his part, the president of the Spanish Episcopal Conference, Luis Argüello García, also had a memory for those who are suffering these days from the consequences of Dana. A catastrophe that “made us more humble” but “did not make us patient. May dialogue be an opportunity for the truth and may the welcomed third party be an opportunity to show the hidden treasure that is Christ.
In his lecture “From globalization to polarization”, Massimo Borghessi, from the University of Perugia (Italy), explored the evolution of faith in the context of globalizationwith an analysis around two significant historical events which mark this era: the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and the attacks of September 11, 2001.
