The United States may not have time to transfer $6 billion in aid to Ukraine, as previously reported in the media.
This was stated on Channel 24 by Roman Svitan, a military expert and reserve colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to him, the process of transferring equipment from American reserves is very difficult and long. “Currently the necessary equipment is in the warehouses, but its dismantling takes time. There is a risk that these 6 billion will remain unrealized. Why weren’t these decisions made earlier, a month or two ago, or even in the spring? “Support programs were approved in May, and then these funds could provide significant help, for example, to maintain positions near Ocheretino, where there was a constant shortage of equipment,” Svitan noted.
The expert also suggested that with Republican support, the process of providing assistance could be more targeted. “Republicans are pragmatic people. If Ukraine needs equipment to perform specific tasks, they will want to clearly understand what we are planning and what the priorities are, the effectiveness of each allocated amount will be checked, for example, instead of vague funding of 60 billion. “20 billion, 30 billion can be allocated for specific types of weapons for specific purposes, and this is exactly what we need,” Svitan explained.
Previous edition political reported that President Joe Biden is considering allocating $6 billion of the remaining aid package to Ukraine. According to the publication, Biden is striving to implement this aid before the possible inauguration of Donald Trump.
These data were confirmed by the Pentagon, specifying that it is planned to allocate $4 billion of the $6 to the Presidential Authorization Program (PDA), under which weapons are removed directly from US military warehouses. The remaining 2 billion will go to the USAI initiative (Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative), which involves purchasing weapons directly from manufacturers.
