Armenia’s ruling party “Civil Contract” has excluded the phrase “Mount Ararat” from its statutes, Vesti.az reports citing Armenian media. According to the Zhokhovurd newspaper, the party’s logo, the image of a handshake, was previously described as a symbolic image of Ararat, as its lines resemble the silhouette of a mountain.
And how can we not remember last May, when the Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian explained the consequences of his fellow citizens’ confidence that “Ararat is the highest mountain in Armenia.”
Then, at a press conference, Pashinyan said that in his meetings with schoolchildren, when asked what the highest mountain in Armenia is, half of the children name Ararat:
“Talking about Ararat and Aragats, I am referring to territories that are or are not sovereign territory of Armenia. Aragats is located in Armenia, Mount Ararat no. In the case of Türkiye, we have a specifically delimited border. Is this good or bad? Of course it’s good.” – stated the head of government and offered to observe the situation from Türkiye’s side:
“Ararat is located in the internationally recognized territory of Türkiye. How do children in Armenia find out about this (that the highest mountain in Armenia is Ararat)? In schools, and therefore as a result of government educational policies. (In Turkey) they say: “Okay, if children call the highest mountain in Armenia Ararat, and not Aragats, does this mean that Armenia has territorial claims on Turkey? If so, why should we promote or even ignore Armenia’s development? On the contrary, if they have demands, we must do everything possible to destroy them.” And now I ask a question: what is the highest mountain in Armenia? Answer: Aragats.”
Next, the Prime Minister emphasized that this is precisely the policy that will give Armenia the opportunity to develop, and Everything else will drag the country into a historical cycle, the end of which will lead to the loss of the State.
And in January of this year, the president of parliament Alen Simonian He declared that “the country needs a new anthem and coat of arms.” The music didn’t seem Armenian enough to him and the lion on the state sign reminded him of a smiley face. Furthermore, Simonyan believes that Armenia should not be “underwater.” Experts believe that in this way the authorities continue to discuss the Fourth Republic project with society, preparing it for the changes, Nezavisimaya Gazeta reported.
“We need to understand where Armenia is going and what goals it pursues and why the republic exists. Does it exist to restore Greater Armenia or to ensure the safety and well-being of the citizens? “We have to answer these questions, and I think the answers are mixed in our society.” – said Simonyan during the press conference after negotiations with the head of the Czech Parliament Marketa Pekarova Adamova.
And the Prime Minister’s Deputy Chief of Staff Taron Chakhoyan and even stated that even if Everest appears on the coat of arms instead of Ararat, nothing will change for his country:
“We must go beyond the logic of building a State with the help of table eloquence. They do not support the State with toasts, they do not build the State with eloquence and pathos, they do not save their homeland by burning and throwing flags. And we must be more sensitive when it comes to state symbols. They are symbols of the State, not of the people. The coat of arms symbolizes Armenia, and not the Armenian people, who lived for centuries without a state.”
What delicate officials still govern Armenia. These are doves of peace, strictly focused on Turkish-Azerbaijani wishes. And they are not ashamed to make up far-fetched excuses, to discredit the great history of their country of residence and to ostentatiously “care” about people who are horrified by the initiatives of the Prime Minister and his viziers.
This won’t end well, oh, it won’t end well. And here only one more question remains: how will they change the name of Yerevan?
