the 8thmy edition of Event Z, the largest charity event organised online in France, which ended on Sunday 8 September, raised a prize pool of 10,145,881 euros for five associations fighting against precariousness: Secours populaire, Bureaux du heart, Cop 1, Solidarité peasant, in conjunction with the Fondation de France, and Chapter 2.
Launched with a concert at the Zénith de Montpellier on Thursday evening, the event, organised by French streamer ZeratoR and his right-hand man Alexandre Dachary, started on Friday at 6pm and was broadcast, as usual, on the Twitch platform. For more than fifty hours, around thirty internet personalities took turns playing video games, taking quizzes and challenging each other.
After a year-long hiatus, this edition brought together streamers such as Kameto, Ladysundae, AVAMind, the host of the Twitch talk show “Popcorn,” Domingo, and even the platform’s amateur TV host Samuel Etienne. They were joined online by around 100 more people, reflecting the 100 streams with the most hours watched over the past year, according to the organization. Also taking part were comedian Laura Felpin and the Lebrun brothers, who shone at the Olympic Games in table tennis.
The Z Event attracts an average of 500,000 to one million spectators. Since its first edition in 2016, then called “Project Avengers”, this donation campaign has raised more than 31 million euros. It has raised more than 10 million euros each time over the last three editions, which took place in 2021 (10,064,480 euros), 2022 (10,182,126 euros, a record) and this year. According to ZeratoR, the money raised has enabled, for example, the Sea Shepherd association to buy a new boat or finance the operation of a hospital in the Central African Republic.
