November 9 is National Flag Day in Azerbaijan.

Our tricolor flag, which was lowered after the fall of the Republic in April 1920, was raised again in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic 70 years later, on November 17, 1990, by decision of the session held under the initiative and direction of the President. of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Heydar Aliyev.
According to the decision of the Supreme Council of Azerbaijan of February 5, 1991, the tricolor flag was accepted as the state flag.
On October 18, 1991, with the Constitutional Law “On State Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan”, the Republic of Azerbaijan reestablished its state symbols, including the state flag, as the successor of the People’s Republic of Azerbaijan.
On June 8, 2004, the legislative basis in this area was improved by the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On the Rules for the Use of the State Flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan.”
The national flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan consists of three horizontal stripes of equal width. The top band is blue, the middle band is red, and the bottom band is green. The blue color means the Turkish origin of the Azerbaijani people, the red color means the desire to build a modern society and develop democracy, and the green color means belonging to the Islamic civilization. On both sides of the flag, in the center of the red stripe, an eight-pointed star with a white crescent is depicted.
National Flag Day is included in the list of non-working holidays in the country.
